Greetings all! I am back with another quick 3PW. First of all, I will say I'm forever grateful for you continuing to read up on the things that make me smile throughout the week. And if you don't have a reason to smile, then hopefully this will cheer you up. So without further ado, lets go!!!
1. Since the passing of Michael K. Williams a few weeks ago, I've been pretty interested in some of the shows he was a part of, such as Boardwalk Empire, The Night Of (which is one of my all time favorite series on HBO) and The Wire. Although I'll admit, I never really watched The Wire. Some say it was pretty epic. Maybe one day I'll watch it...who knows. But the show I watched and loved with all my soul was last year's Lovecraft Country. It's based on a book by Matt Ruff that came out a few years ago. I actually have the book and never even read the damn thing. I got it after I watched the show and became fascinated with it. I'll read it also one day. But nonetheless, the show garnered critical acclaim and was an instant success. If you don't know about it, I'll brief you. It's about Atticus (played by Johnathan Majors) who goes to search for his dad across the US during segregation times in the 1950s. The term Lovecraft Country is based on the writer HP Lovecraft, who wrote many supernatural tales supposedly in these parts of the US that Atticus is traveling. So of course there is racial tension, but add in monsters and magic too...oh boy. It's an amazing show. Michael K Williams plays the dad, Montrose, to perfection. If you haven't watched it yet, I implore you to do so. It's worth every bit of your binge time. Sadly, there will be no second season, but it's still very entertaining.
2. So I've been on this herbal kick for the last few weeks now. Let me back up a little bit...I've been wondering if there is a way to promote a healthy lifestyle without the use of meds and prescriptions. I was on a previous podcast with my friend, Scentoria Bliss, and we talked about herbs and supplements and how it can truly help you with different ailments and moods. She recommended a few herbs to try out to see if it will help me overcome my stress and anxiety I was feeling. To my surprise, the ones I tried worked well. I had a little bit of discomfort in my lower back for a few months (I've been going to a Chiropractor as well) and a Dr. suggested I begin taking Turmeric everyday instead of over the counter meds. So I did. I started about 3 weeks ago consistently and one day I thought to myself, "wait, I don't feel any discomfort anymore..." So I began looking at other types of herbs and started stocking up on ones Scentoria suggested. Ashwaghanda can help with mood, Valerian Root will help with sleep and nerves, Damiana will help with calm and mental focus...the list goes on and on. I ended up purchasing a book of herbs and will continue to look more into that. I'll definitely come back on here and let you know my progress.
3. I'm sure you've heard of The Serenity Prayer. If not, it goes:
"God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can't change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference..."
Well, did you know there are additional lines to it as well? I did not know at all! I was so used to saying the prayer, that I never really took the time to research it. If you did, then that's amazing of you. But for those that didn't, it goes:
"Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world As it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that You will make all things right If I surrender to Your Will; So that I may be reasonably happy in this life And supremely happy with You Forever and ever in the next. Amen."
I don't know about you, but that's a game-changer for me. The reason I say that is because the final lines are about enjoying moments in life, which a lot of folks don't do. It's about understanding this world is wacky, but there is someone by your side to help you navigate through it, as long as you allow Him to. That's big, folks. I've always said that all of this is bigger than us, and people think they can do it on their own. But truth be told, we need help. That help could be by praying or meditating, by becoming one with yourself, by enjoying moments. That's how we understand the wisdom to know the difference. And that's how we receive peace.
